NorthEast Pacific Deep-Sea Exploration Project
NEPDEP expeditions are on-the-water learning trips that bring together knowledge holders, leadership, youth, and technical teams to visit ecologically and culturally important places offshore. They help guide protection work by learning directly from the ocean, through observation, language, and shared teachings.
- Planning with communities to identify goals, routes, and key sites.
- On-the-water visits to observe conditions, species, and seafloor features.
- Sharing teachings, place names, and histories in the places they come from.
- Documenting observations respectfully (notes, photos, mapping, interviews where appropriate).
- Bringing results back to community to inform priorities and governance discussions.
